Fishes are known for Bengali. In Kolkata, the famous dish is fish and sweets. Every non-veg people who visit Kolkata will try different kinds of fish recipes and the people who stay over there have fish and it's also known as fish is good for our eyes. They are different varieties of fish and many ways of making the recipe. 

So, today I am going to share the Katla match. March is nothing but fish and Katla is the name of a fish. It is very simple and easy to prepaid and the ingredients which I have used are mostly available at you are home kitchen itself. You can serve the Katla match curry with hot steam rice

Well, the taste of the dish also depends on how you buy the fish, it can turn extremely tasty if you buy a good quality of fish. I will be sharing a few points to get a better fish

Points:

  • Try to get fresh fish from the market if possible
  • See that the fish should not be too fat
  • If the shopkeeper gives you fish stating that it is fresh do check it out by looking into the eyes of the fish. The old fish get, the duller the eyes are.
Now, you know how to buy the fish, let me take you through the recipe!!

Equipment required

  • Chopping board
  • Dishes and Bowls
  • Spatula and ladle
  • Mixer and grinder to make a paste
  • Knife for chopping
  • Serving bowls and plates 


Ingredients required :

  • Katla fish half kg
  • 2 tbsp ginger and garlic paste
  • 1 lemon
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • oil
  • Salt
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 green cardamon
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 7 to 10 cashews
  • 1/3 cup yoghurt
  • Water
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • Few chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp dasi ghee

Method:

Step 1: Take a Katla fish approximate half kg 

Step 2: Take a bowl add 1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste and squeeze one lemon, add salt, add 1 tbsp Kashmiri red chilly powder, add 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder mix all well.

Step 3: Now marinate fish with spices mix and quote them well

(After marinating keep aside at least for 30 min)

Step 4: Now take a pan add 1 tbsp oil heat it, then add 1 tbsp cumin seeds, 1 cinnamon, 2 cloves, add 2 green cardamom, 1 tbsp coriander seeds mix all smoothly 

Step 5:Then add 1 chopped onion cook for a min then add 7 -10 cashews

(cook until onion is translucent and slightly golden and then it is cool)

Step 6: Once it cools down, add it to a mixer jar, adds 1/3rd cup of yoghurt and make a smooth paste

Step 7: In the same pa, add oil 2 tbsp heat it and shallow fry marinated fish 

(fry in medium flame for 2 to 3 min on each side and fry fish is golden brown from both sides then turn off flame)

Step 8: Now take a Kadai add 3 to 4 tbsp oil and add 1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste stir it for a min

Step 9: Then add the onion paste cook for 2 to 3 min till oil gets separated from it 

Step 10: After that add 1 grated medium size tomato mix it then add 1 1/2 tbsp Kashmiri red chilly powder, 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder mix it well

Step 11: Also add salt as per taste and add water 1/2 cup mix well and cover & cook on low flame for 3 - 5 mins

( fixed the consistency of gravy according to what you need)

Step 12: Now add fried fish and mix it gently

( do not stir fish unnecessarily  and cover & cook on low flame for 3 to 4 min )

In this stage, you will see that the oil is getting separated at this stage add 1tbsp garam masala and chopped cilantro also add 1 tbsp desi ghee and mix it gently. 

Now delicious fish curry is ready to serve it!!
