Modak Recipe


Happy Ganesh Chaturthi 2020, is an auspicious Hindu festival that is celebrated 10 days every year. This festival is famous in Maharashtra The festival is celebrated according to the Hindu calendar, during this festival we make different kinds of sweets and celebrate the festival very grandly. But this 2020 year is different, it is a pandemic year. In this year we all are fighting with covid 19. So, the festival can't be celebrated grandly this year, but we can stay home and make different varieties of sweets for Bappa and celebrate at home only.

Well, as we know famous sweet during Ganesh Chaturthi is Modak. It is said that Lord loves modak so these are made in every home celebrating this special day.

What is Modak?

Modak is a Maharashtrian sweet which is made of rice flour dough and a sweet content jaggery filling. The filling is delicately flavoured with cardamom powder and sometimes even with nutmeg. Modak is also made in many other states with different fillings like sesame jaggery or peanut jaggery. some people make the stuffing according to their family taste.

Now, I am going to share a recipe for " Mawa Modak"

 Ingredient :

  • 1. Ghee
  • 2. Milk
  • 3. Saffron Milk
  • 4. Milk Power
  • 5. Powdered sugar
  • 6. Cardamon Power
  • 7. Modak Mould
  • 8. Dry fruits
  • 9. Silver Vark

Process of making Modak step by step

Step 1: 1 tsp ghee, half cup milk, 3 tbsp Saffron milk mixed well in the pan

Step 2: Add milk powder  1.5 cups, unsweetened ( combine well)

Step 3: Make silky smooth ( keep in mind they should  not be lumps )

Step 4:Keep stirring (at low flame)

Step 5: Make a thickens

Step 6: Separates pan after 30min

Step 7: After 30 min you can see  "instant mawa" ready

Step 8: After that take a bowl to keep that mawa for a 5 min till it gets a little cool

Step 9: Then add powdered sugar half cup, Cardamon power half tsp ( mixed well with mawa)

Step 10: Prepare a soft dough of that

Step 11: After that take a  modak mould, add a little bit of ghee then stuff in mould in small ball size.

Step 12: Then above that add dry fruit ( like cashew, almond ), then close the mould, after that scrape excess then opens gently.

Step 13: Then add silver vark to Mawa Modhak

 Now the  "Mawa Modhak" is ready. This can be served by god and can be distributed to people as holy offerings (passed).
