 Chana dal recipe- step by step

Dal contains portion, fibre, minerals everyone needs to consume daily in their daily meal. They are many varieties of dal that is prepaid by every household kitchen. And each dal have a different taste and flavour. 

In dal the most important thing is tadka. If we boiled the dal and add some tadka the taste become very delightful. So today I am going to share the recipe for chana dal is also known as Cholar dal in Bengali.

This Dal can be prepared for any occasion and can serve with hot puri to the guests and especially kids love to eat pori/puri so, they will be enjoying a lot.

Chana dal recipe

So let's jump into the recipe of Chana dal

Ingredients required:

  • 2 cups chana dal
  • Turmeric
  • Oil
  • 2 chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp Ginger and garlic paste
  • Salt
  • Red chilli powder
  • Ghee
  • Kashmir red chilli powder
  •  Garam masala
  • Fenugreek leaves

Method:

Step 1: Firstly take 2 cups chana dal, wash it and soak for 2 hours

Step 2: After soaking add 1/2 tbsp turmeric also ass water as required.

Step 3:Now take a pan to add 5 tbsp of oil hear it.

Step 4: Then add 2 chopped onions and fry them until it turns into brown colour and it looks crisps

(Chopped onion into fine slides)

After it fries remove the oil to half a cup

Step 5: in the reaming oil add 1 tbsp cumin seeds, add 2 bay leaves, add ginger and garlic paste 1 tbsp fry them until the raw smell vanishes.

Step 6: After that add tomato puree mix it

Step 7: Now add salt as per taste, add Kashmiri red chilly powder 1 tbsp, add 2 tbsp coriander powder, add 1 tbsp turmeric Powder, add curry powder 1 tbsp mix all well and cook until oil gets separated from it.

Step 8: After that add fried onion mix it and cook for 2 min

( Before adding fried onion crush them well)

Step 9: After masala is cooked add boiled dal and also add water one and half cups (1 1/2) mix well and cook for 2 min.

Step 10: After that add 2 to 3 green chilli, add 1 tbsp gram masala, add dry fenugreek leaves 1/2 tbsp.

(Cover and cook for 10 min in low flame )

Step 11:  On another side take a small pan to add 2 tbsp ghee, add 2 to 3 red chilli dry, add 1 tbsp red chilli powder mix it for 1 min.

The tadka is ready.

Step 12: After 10 min you will find that the dal is also read.

Take a serving bowl place the dal and on top add tadka and sprinkle some coriander leaves on top.

The chana dal is ready to serve it!!

Remember to add the spices according to the quantity of Chana dal you are going to prepare
